When you go on a cruise, what sort of entertainment can you expect?
It will vary a bit from ship to ship, but here’s a guide to the sort of entertainment you can expect on your cruise.
Cruise Ship Evening Entertainment
There’s a good variety of evening entertainment on a cruise ship. Acts such as:
- Musical Show (often a West End style show, performed by the cruise ship’s own singers and dancers)
- Singers
- Musicians, such as pianists or saxophonists
- Comedians
- Magicians
- Tribute Bands
Usually, there are different types of show going on in different venues across the ship. So you will have a choice.
But don’t worry if you want to go to more than one. The shows are usually repeated throughout the evening, so you can plan your evening to take in two shows.
But if you don’t fancy being entertained, you could go dancing, listen to a pianist or quartet gently playing whilst you sip your favourite wine, or watch the waves go by from the quiet bar at the top of the ship.
Cruise Ship Daytime Entertainment
During the daytime, if the ship is at sea and if sunbathing on the open deck isn’t your thing, there’s a good range of entertainment and enrichment programmes available.
Cruise Lectures
Lectures cover all sorts of topics, such as:
- Everyday Technology
- Crime
- Royalty
- History
- Maritime
- Nature
- Astronomy
- Film, TV, Stunts
- News & Media
- Port Destinations
- Music
Pick any topic, and there’s likely to be a lecture about it.
But do you know why I placed Everyday Technology at the top of the list? It’s because I do these talks on cruise ships – taking everyday techie topics such as free apps, online shopping, and avoiding scams, simplifying them and making them entertaining, practical and useful for everyday life.
Anyway, self-promotion over…
Even when I’m not doing lectures in the ship’s theatre, I enjoy listening to other people’s lectures. Someone’s years of experience and knowledge condensed into a 45-minute entertaining talk.
More Cruise Daytime Activities
If sitting and listening to a lecture isn’t your thing, you’ll find many other activities such as:
- Art Tutorials
- Craft Tutorials
- Quizzes
- Bingo
- Dancing
On one cruise, my wife decided to attend the art class and learned a brand new skill: watercolours. When we arrived home, she signed up to a local art community group.
There are many new skills you can try out on a cruise ship.
Cruise Ship Comedy
Stuart St Paul and Jean Heard, of Doris Visits fame, often speak on cruise ships about their TV, movie, theatre and writing careers. Recently, they started a cruise podcast and asked me to do a cruise techie tip slot.
On this particular episode about cruise ship comedians, I did that… plus a bit of comedy. Yes, I know, don’t give up the day job!
