Us Brits love warm places.
Pretty obvious, isn’t it?
If it isn’t cold in Great Britain, it’s raining.
Actually, it’s not all that bad. In fact, it’s pretty good much of the time.
But we do like to complain about the weather.
And we do like to get away to enjoy some warm sunshine.
That’s why the Caribbean is so popular for cruises.
The Caribbean
The Caribbean season (that’s when the cruise ships go to the Caribbean islands) just so happens to be when it’s really cold in the UK.
So whilst all your friends are shivering and complaining about the weather, you’ll be lying on a warm sandy beach, soaking up the sun’s rays.
When is the Caribbean Season?
Typically it’s November to March. They reckon January and February are the best months.
So if you want to get away from the cold British winter, hop on a plane and begin your cruise in scorching Barbados.
The Mediterranean
When the cruise ships come to the end of the Caribbean season, many of them sail over to the Mediterranean.
The warmest months in the Mediterranean are May to September – which is perfect if you’re limited to school Summer holidays.
What could be better than roaming the old city of Dubrovnik? History coming alive.
Repositioning Cruises
Here’s a bonus tip.
When a cruise ship moves from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean, often they’ll reduce the fares to attract passengers so that the ship doesn’t sail empty and waste money.
Typically, you’ll board the cruise ship in Southampton and sail across the Atlantic towards the Caribbean, maybe stopping at the Azores or somewhere similar on the way.
Once in the Caribbean, you’ll visit a few islands, and then fly back to the UK.
Of course, you could also choose to cruise in the opposite direction at the end of the Caribbean season.
If you want the cruise-life (fine dining, sea-air, entertainment or relaxation) rather than visiting tourist places, this could be the perfect option for you.
Norwegian Fjords
It was bitterly cold when we sailed up the coast of Norway in March.
But it was incredibly beautiful.
However, if you don’t like the cold, try July and August.
If you love natural beauty, you’ll probably love a cruise around the Fjords.
Other Cruise Destinations
That was just a taster. The whole world is there to be enjoyed. Indeed, the ultimate cruise must be a world cruise.
But what about…
- USA and Canada
- Asia
- Australia and New Zealand
- A River Cruise (maybe the Rhine or the Danube)
Where Should I Go on a Cruise?
So where is best?
The answer to that depends on what you like, and what you want to do…
- Relax in warm sunshine?
- See beautiful scenery?
- Explore cities and towns?
Then I’d suggest you try…
- The Caribbean
- The Fjords
- A French or German river cruise.
